Inspired by the art of John Hogan, whose photographs examine discord between the southwestern landscape and encroaching civilization, Tacoma 1 and Tacoma 2 are variations on an identical design featuring a Toyota Tacoma mysteriously parked on the berm of a two-lane highway that winds through the desert. In Tacoma 2, the truck is a mirror silhouette. Reminiscent of a police officer’s reflective sunglasses or a 2-way mirror, the viewer is confronted with the possibility that the artwork is watching them.
