Fire At Sea (After Turner)
collage of magazines and packaging
73 in. vertical by 92 in. horizontal
2014
The grid brings into the present the tension inherent in Turner’s Romantic catastrophic landscapes, between the human quest to conquer nature through science and technology and the admiration of its sublime powers.
Unlike Dada that represented the chaos of post-WWI Europe through collage, I show how advertising companies’ design strategies cohere, promoting a paradoxical fractured uniformity in modernity.
