An object can be an everyday object and yet completely useless. In fact, I would guess that the majority of everyday objects manufactured today are less functional and have a shorter lifespan than the packaging they come in. And I believe some minor research would reveal a strong correlation between an everyday object’s uselessness and the time of year it was purchased. It is probably not an exaggeration to estimate that ninety five percent of all plastic toys purchased as gifts are played with only once, and within twelve hours of being unwrapped. And grown-ups’ gifts are hardly better.
